In April 2019, Evan Rachel Wood sat before a panel of State of California congressmen dramatically detailing how she has photograph and video evidence of horrific abuse done to her that cannot be viewed by the state as the statute of limitations had passed. She did so while advocating for the expansion of the statute of limitations in abuse cases – a worthy cause – while acknowledging that the Phoenix Act bill then being evaluated would not benefit her case.
So when a new law championed by survivors lifting the statute of limitations for a calendar year was signed by signed by Governor Newsom — one would think Evan Rachel Wood would be among those eager to take advantage of it.
After all, Wood discussing her ire over the statute of limitations affecting her case wasn’t contained just to congress.
She also spoke about this in her Phoenix Rising “documentary” (that a LA judge Teresa Beaudet ruled to be prejudicial earlier this month) as well as in major media appearances – including multiple appearances on national television, podcasts and publications like The Cut and Rolling Stone.
In the end, Wood has repeatedly shared that she DID ultimately take her “evidence” to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department as well as the FBI. Both law enforcement agencies conducted in-depth investigations into all allegations that emerged against Manson from Wood as well as her female friends who have also lodged accusations and no criminal charges have been filed to date.
Anti-Slapp Ruling Aftermath
Shortly after Brian Warner/Marilyn Manson filed a lawsuit against Evan Rachel Wood and her ex-girlfriend Illma Gore in March 2022 – both ladies filed anti-slapp motions to strike portions of his complaint as protected free speech.
An intense legal battle then commenced with multiple delays as the parties argued over depositions and evidence. The large number of evidentiary objections also prompted multiple delays in the hearing – pushing it back from Dec. 1, 2022 to April 11, 2023. At the hearing, Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Teresa Beaudet granted the vast majority of both Gore and Wood’s anti-slapp motions.
With that resolved, the ladies were next on deck to file responses to Manson’s lawsuit within thirty days and this was the golden opportunity for Evan Rachel Wood to file a counterclaim against Marilyn Manson over her lengthy abuse allegations against him under the law lifting the statute of limitations in calendar year 2023.
She would then be able to surface all the photograph, video and other evidence she claims to have been preserving and fight for justice in court against the man she claims has caused her a lot of pain and suffering.
Evan Rachel Wood Chooses to Not File Counterclaim
Except….
That’s not what happened.
Instead? Evan Rachel Wood forfeited her ability to file a counterclaim against Manson. She opted to go with a standard response denying everything and enlisted her crisis PR team purchase an exclusive with Radar Online to try and put a positive spin on what’s shaping up to not really be a great month for Ms. Wood thus far.
Yes, she was granted her anti-slapp motion but that’s only further inflamed people who are (rightfully) outraged by her forging and filing a FBI letter in court and getting away with it. The HBO special Phoenix Rising she was so proud of and filed as “evidence” in court was thrown out by the judge as prejudicial hearsay, news of her major struggles in a custody case are making the rounds and both Marilyn Manson and Illma Gore are creating art again as she sits out of the public eye.
It seems Evan Rachel Wood is enduring somewhat of a fall from grace or at least some bit of tarnish on her crown.
Electing to not file a lawsuit against Marilyn Manson for the many abuse allegations she’s lodged – including a claim that he raped her on set while filming a music video despite witnesses that say otherwise – feels like somewhat of a concession.
We’re beyond the two-year mark of criminal investigations into Wood’s claims and no charges have been filed. Now, we see Wood elect not to raise a civil case.
It’s all starting to beg the question: was she being truthful?
Because she’s had a lot of opportunity to share her reported evidence and we’re yet to see any that Manson has been abusive towards her.
@justice4marilynmanson Evan Rachel Wood has officially decided to forego her option to countersue Marilyn Manson. Its giving – I lied and don’t have a case. #justiceformarilynmanson #marilynmanson ♬ Spirit In The Sky – Norman Greenbaum
